Islamabad - Islamabad police have arrested 212 persons involved in street crimes during the current year and recovered 148 snatched mobile phones, looted cash and valuables, including gold ornaments, from their possession, police said yesterday.

According to the police spokesman, the capital police enhanced patrolling as well as vigilance, besides obtaining the record of those ever remained involved in street crimes and arrested a total of 212 criminals. He said that 148 snatched mobile phones, looted cash and valuables including gold ornaments were also recovered from their possession.

SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiani has directed all sub-divisional police officers and station house officers to ensure effective patrolling in their jurisdictions and take stern action against the anti-social elements. Following his constant monitoring over police performance, the police spokesman said a significant reduction was witnessed in street crime.

The SSP has also directed to ensure vigilance against the suspects and make effective checking at all entry and exit points of the city.

Meanwhile, Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Islamabad police has busted a gang of bike-lifters and recovered four motorbikes from it. A special team headed by DSP CIA Bashir Ahmed Noon succeeded to nab a bike lifter Hamza Mushtaq. Police recovered four bikes from him while further investigation is underway from the accused to arrest his other accomplices.
