ISLAMABAD - Ruling Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) is giving second thought to reinstall Sardar Ayaz Sadiq as Speaker National Assembly, as some powerful players within the party suggested to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to bring some new face on the slot to avoid undue criticism and controversy mainly from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

Sources in the party and background interview with the people aware of the developments taking place on this front informed The Nation that it was due to the pressure on Nawaz Sharif from within the party for bringing some new face on the slot that the candidate for the slot was yet to be finalised.

Initially at the time of pitching Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in elections instead of moving the apex court against the decision of Elections Tribunal declaring the elections in NA-122 void and announcing fresh elections, there was general impression within the party that after his re-elections, which seemed quite easy and imminent at that stage, he( Ayaz) would be the only choice for the slot of Speaker National Assembly.

But things changed a lot after his close victory from PTI candidate Aleem Khan and that too again questioned by PTI candidate, and some of the close aides of Nawaz Sharif floated the idea of bringing some new face on the slot of Speaker National Assembly.

The matter was kept in limbo by Sharifs, though they did discussed it with some close aides but no final decision on bringing some new face was made yet, a senior party leader on condition of anonymity informed The Nation.

He further said that he did not know what is in the mind of Nawaz Sharif but for one thing he was sure that no final decision on the subject was made and most likely in a next few days, most probably before the National Assembly session in the first week of November, meeting of senior party leaders would be held to weigh various options on it.

However, the supporters of Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, were not ready to buy the idea that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was looking for his replacement and claimed that no other but Prime Minister had assured Sardar Ayaz Sadiq that after his re-election from NA-122 he would be again made Speaker National Assembly, for ruling PML-N have comfortable majority in the Lower House of the Parliament.

Even they don’t need the support of their coalition partners including JUI-F.

Another party leader close to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq said that he has full backing and blessings of Nawaz Sharif and in his view he would be the only choice for the slot of Speaker National Assembly keeping in view he had run the House.

When contacted Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, former Speaker National Assembly, said that he was unaware of any development in this connection quickly ,adding, that he would accept any decision made by his party leadership and would serve the cause of democracy and party in whatever form his party wanted.

He said that right now he was busy running the party’s Local Bodies campaign of the party and was unaware of any development in this connection reiterating his allegiance with the party as a party worker.

When asked about any commitment for making him Speaker by the Prime Minister, he said that there was not such thing and when the party chief asked him to go for elections instead of pursuing the case in apex court and as he also wanted to re-establish his standing in his constituency he accepted the decision.

Some insiders in the party informed that the people opposing Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s candidature for Speaker’s slot had tossed the idea that he should be made Federal Minister and some other person preferably from smaller province should be brought as Speaker National Assembly.
