District police Officer Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi on Tuesday reviewed security arrangements for local bodies elections in the district to ensure implementation of code of ethics of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The meeting reviewed the security arrangements for union councils, polling stations and polling booths for local government elections.
Addressing SDPOs and SHOs in the meeting held at his office regarding local bodies election 2015, the DPO briefed the policemen as how to ensure effective security on the occasion and also to submit report with his office about security duties so that elaborate plan may be finalised.
He said that there would be complete ban on display of weapons on the occasion. He directed all police officials to conduct security survey in their respective areas and submit report about sensitive polling stations. He said that it would be ensured to hold elections in peaceful environment as per ECP code of ethics. He said that the police would perform its duty without discrimination and immediately register an FIR against law offenders.
Wall chalking and use of loud-speakers would also be prohibited and no rally except pre-planned corner meetings would be allowed, the DPO added.
Similarly, he said, no candidate would be allowed to provide transport to the voters except close relatives or deliver hate speeches to influence or incite voters or damage opponents' property or repute in any manner what so ever. Regarding police , he said that strict disciplinary action would be taken against those police personnel found involved in political activities.
