LAHORE - The PML-N has managed to keep its vote-bank intact in Faisalabad although main leaders of the party still stand apart.

The political tussle between the PML-N stalwarts namely Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan and former MNA and Mayor Ch Sher Ali was likely to cost the party heavy in the October 31 local bodies election in Faisalabad district.

However, timely intervention of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has controlled the damage after he invited Sher Ali to a meeting where he calmed him down against his rival.

Besides other issues, the main bone of contention was the constituency of PP-70 Faisalabad from Rana Sana had returned to the provincial assembly in the last election. The same is considered to be a political hub of Sher Ali who wanted to field the candidates of his own choice there, which the other did resisted and the situation aggravated.

Abid Sher Ali, the son of Sher Ali and Minster for State in the present cabinet, was elected in the last election from the NA-84 which housed the said PA seat.

The disgruntled leader of the PML-N after meeting with the CM undertook to obey direction of the leadership and the discipline. Ch Sher Ali expressed full confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif.

On the occasion, Ch Sher Ali said that Muslim League-N is his own party and he will respect every decision of his leadership.

Sources in the party say that the party leadership has left PP-70 open for both Sher Ali and Rana Sana groups who however they will field the candidates not on the party election symbol. Sources say Sher Ali candidates will enter the arena on the symbol of ‘bucket’ while that of Rana Sana ‘diamond’ and they will face the PTI instead of dividing their votes through facing each other, add the sources.

As to which group have the office of the Mayor Faisalabad will be decided by the party leadership later on, the sources say.

Former Mayor Faisalabad Sher Ali is related to the Sharif family. Sher Ali, who operates his own political group under the name of ‘Mayors Group’ for the local bodies election in Faisalabad was badly annoyed with Punjab Law Minister Ran Sanullah Khan who is believed have overshadowed him politically.

This in-fight of the PML-N main leaders was going to disserve the party in the local bodies elections in Faisalabad. Sher was also preparing to show the power of his group through a rally on October 28 at Dobhighat but he was denied permission by the administration.

To end the hostility of the two, previously an attempt was made through Cap (r) Muhammad Safdar, the son of law of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, but it was in vain.

Rana Sana Ullah is generally known as a close associate and highly trusted person of the Chief Minster as such this political embroil between him and Sher was not without worry to him at this stage. After Sher Ali has held meeting with the Chief Minister, hopefully guns would get silenced on both sides.
