LAHORE - Minister for Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Kh Salman Rafiq has said that construction of big hospitals through public private partnership was a new concept and first such health facility would be set up in Johar Town.

Speaking at a road show arranged by Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC) at a local hotel on Friday to disseminate information to national and international firms interested in setting up hospitals under PPP mode in Lahore, he said that it was a successful model abroad. He said that 16 billion dollars investment has been made in Turkey in health sector under PPP mode. Secretary SH&ME Najam Ahmed Shah, Chief Executive Officer PHIMC Zaheer Abbas Malik, VC KEMU Prof Qazi Saeed, principals and medical superintendents of medical colleges/hospitals, consultants and representatives of different national and international firms attended the road show.

Kh Salman Rafiq said that new hospitals, specialized institutions and burn units have been constructed across the province besides enhancing capacity of existing ones during the last 4-5 years. He said that revamping of all the DHQ hospitals has also been carried out. He said that construction of new hospitals under PPP mode would usher revolution in the health sector. Najam Ahmed Shah said that all the queries and questions of the participants/stakeholders would be addressed and transparency would be ensured in this process.

Zaheer Abbas Malik said that 40 kanal piece of land has been allocated in Johar Town for the construction of 500-bed hospital. This hospital would be established on the BOT model (built, operate and transform) for which all the procedural requirements would be fulfilled and the interested firms/companies would be prequalified, he added.
