ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Housing and Works will start new housing schemes in Islamabad including Thaliyan Housing Scheme on M-2 Motorway Interchange.

It was stated by Minister of State for Ports and Shipping Chaudhry Jaffar Iqbal on Friday while responding to a question in Senate on behalf of Minister for Housing and Works.

Foundation (FGEHF) has made a joint venture agreement with M/s K.S. Developers & Builders (Pvt) Ltd in Mouza Moorat, Mouza Chohan and Mandowal on M-2 Motorway near Thaliyan interchange for development of housing schemes on land measuring 7000 to 10000 Kanals.–APP


Govt planning to increase capacity of Simly Dam


ISLAMABAD: The federal government is planning to increase the capacity of water storage of Simly Dam to fulfil the requirement of the residents of the Federal Capital. “The useable storage capacity of Simly Dam has been decreased by 7 percent and the government was taking several steps to address the issue,” sources in the Ministry of Interior told APP. They said the government was adopting watershed management practices in the catchment area including plantation of trees, increasing vegetative cover and construction of check dams to overcome the issue.–APP

To a question, they said that capacity of water storage of Simly Dam decreasing due to silting. Sedimentation silting in impounded reservoirs is a natural phenomenon which cannot be stopped completely. As far as the Rawal and Khanpur Dams are concerned, they are operated and maintained by the Small Dams Organization, Irrigation Department government of Punjab and Water and Power Development Authority respectively, they added.
