ISLAMABAD  -  Acting Director General, Pakistan Sports Board, Mansoor Ahmad Khan convened a meeting of the senior officers of the PSB Friday to review the development portfolio and maintenance works of the Board.  

The meeting was called on the behalf of the Federal Minister for IPC, who is very keen and determined for the up gradation and proper maintenance of the facilities at Pakistan Sports Complex. 

The meeting was informed that the following the work was underway in approved sports development schemes included in the PSDP 2017-18 while new schemes were under approval process and some were at planning stage. Elaborating the details, PSB Executive Engineer stated that 10 projects with a total allocation of Rs.3,044157 million were included in the current PSDP 2017-18 adding that work on the mega project Construction of Sports Complex at Narowal was in full swing.  

The process to get the funds released for other projects in PSDP 2017-18 including replacement of synthetic hockey turfs in seven cities, which include Islamabad, Faisalabad, Wah Cantt, Peshawar, Quetta, Abbotabad and Lahore with a financial outlay of Rs.591.882 was under process. Mansoor emphasised the need for hectic efforts for the immediate release of funds for holding of Quaid-e-Azam Inter-Provincial Games as per schedule in the first week of December, 2017. 

The meeting was informed that PC-I’s for the seven more sports development scheme at Pakistan Sports Complex, Islamabad and 11 at the PSB coaching centres in Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and Lahore had been prepared and were under the process of approval. The total estimated cost of these scheme stood at Rs500,000 million, which was proposed to be met out of the allocation of Rs 2,000,00 million made in the current PSDP for strengthening of the sports infrastructure. 

Mansoor stressed that utilisation of all resources should be ensured to complete the current renovation work at the Pakistan Sports Complex special emphasis on the up gradation of washrooms throughout the Complex. 

It was also brought to the notice of the meeting that a number of projects including carpeting of roads, construction of Admin Block, Floodlights at Naseer Bunda Hockey Stadium and Baseball Stadium had been incepted a few years back yet these schemes have not so far approved. It was discussed that the estimated cost of the proposed schemes should be rationalised on the basis of prevailing rates. The Board also advised the National Sports Federations to chalk out comprehensive training plan for effective preparation and participation in the forthcoming XXI Commonwealth Games from April 4-15, 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia and 18th Asian Games from August 18 to September 2, 2018 at Jakarta. The Federations were directed to submit the plan by November 15 positively.
