NA shows solidarity with Dr Aafia

ISLAMABAD The Members of the National Assembly staged a solidarity walk against Dr Aafia Siddiquis conviction here at the Constitution Avenue on Monday. As the proceedings of the House started, speaking on a point of order, Leader of Opposition Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan proposed a unanimous protest walk of the parliamentarians against Dr Aafias conviction by a US court. He said that all parties should register their protest for the 'daughter of the nation. Responding to the Opposition Leader, Interior Minister Rehman Malik assured the National Assembly that apart from legal aspects, the case of Dr Aafia Siddiqui would also be handled at political level. On the call of Ch Nisar Ali Khan, all parliamentarians irrespective of their political affiliation staged a protest walk outside the Parliament House in which they chanted slogans for the immediate release of Dr Aafia. Dr Aafias sister, Dr Fouzia Siddiqui also joined the solidarity walk of the parliamentarians. Addressing the participants of the walk, Ch Nisar said that his party had raised the issue of Dr Aafia immediately after 2008 general elections but the Government did not pay attention to PML-Ns voice. Pervez Musharraf, an absconder of our courts, moves freely in US and delivers lectures, he said asking US and UK to hand over former president to Pakistan. JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said America should stop aggression against Muslim Ummah and pull its troops back from Afghanistan and Iraq.
