Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that the prime minister has a role in all clauses except in appointing judges. The chief justice was speaking during a hearing of the 18th amendment case in the Supreme Court. During the hearing, the Chief Justice said the 18th amendment ensures a true parliamentary government. He said the 18th amendment has brought major changes in the constitution and has strengthened the role of the prime minister. A 17-member bench heard a number of identical petitions challenging some provisions of the 18th amendment. These include the formation of a judicial commission and parliamentary committee for judges appointment.
