ISLAMABAD Troika of President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani met Monday to get rid of the NRO beneficiaries including Interior Minister Rehman Malik. According to well-placed sources, the three analysed the situation emerging in the wake of the apex courts requiring of the government to write to the Swiss government for reopening of the cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. The three apex powers in the country resolved to get rid of the beneficiaries of notorious as well as defunct NRO (National Reconciliation Ordinance) were they Interior Minister Rehaman Malik or any other functionary in the government. However, they agreed to the fact that the President enjoyed immunity under the Constitutions article 248. Meanwhile, according to Presidents spokesman Farhatullah Babar, a meeting was held in the Presidency on Monday presided over by President Asif Ali Zardari, and attended by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. He said that the meeting, lasted for over 90 minutes, reviewed the current situation in the country. The meeting also expressed the resolve to defend and protect the democratic process and to resolve all issues in accordance with the Constitution, he added. The meeting also reviewed the flood relief measures in the country and the ongoing fight against militancy. Security situation in the country and the region also came under discussion during the meeting, the spokesman maintained. Earlier, the sources told TheNation that the troika was of the view that the elements in the current set-up being the irritants to continuity of the current democratic set-up must forego their positions to save the entire process.
