LAHORE - Country director of World Bank's South Asian Region Patchamuthu Illangovan called on Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar at the civil secretariat on Thursday.

During the meeting, bilateral discussion was held to expand cooperation in different sectors, including ongoing programmes of social sector development launched in collaboration with the world bank.

The both agreed to enhance cooperation in different sectors, including tourism, urban development and environment in future.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said the world bank was a strong partner of the Punjab government and its cooperation with regard to social sector development was praiseworthy.

"We appreciate assistance of the world bank in health, education, skills development, agriculture and irrigation sectors," he added. He said the PTI government was striving hard to improve quality of life of people and Prime Minister Imran Khan wanted that every locality and area should progress.

"The PTI government is devising a strategy to bring the deprived areas at par with the developed regions of the province," he said.

CM Buzdar said public resources would be spent on welfare of people and the general public would be provided different facilities through enhanced capacity of public sector institutions.

"We are committed to introducing reforms and the cooperation of the World Bank will be welcomed warmly," he opined. He said the government was going to start clean and green Punjab campaign as provision of neat and clean environment to the people was their responsibility.

Patchamuthu Illangovan said, on the occasion, the world bank would continue its cooperation with the Punjab government. "The priorities of chief minister Punjab will be included in sectors of mutual cooperation and the bank will continue close liaison with the Punjab government in this regard," he added.

Separately, Belarusian Ambassador Andrei Ermolovich called on CM Buzdar at civil secretariat on Thursday. Different matters of mutual interest including promotion of bilateral relations and expansion of cooperation came under discussion. The both agreed to further promote cooperation between Punjab and Belarus and options of investments were pondered over.

Talking on the occasion, chief minister said the agenda of the PTI government was welfare of the masses and the government was working hard to fulfill its commitments. "Investment will be promoted with friendly countries and cooperation between Punjab and Belarus will be expanded in important sectors," he said.

He said, exchange of trade and investment delegations would help promote investment and cooperation in different sectors.

The chief minister said, ample opportunities of investments existed in different areas, including agriculture, livestock and textile sectors. "We will welcome Belarusian investors with open arms and practical steps will be taken for cooperation," he said.

The Belarusian envoy said, his government was desirous to further expand the existing cooperation. For this purpose, he said, more exchange of business delegations was essential. He said Belarus was far ahead in automobile industry and cooperation would be extended with Punjab in this regard. "Similarly, we are also desirous to promote cooperation in agriculture and textile sectors.
