LAHORE - The National College of Arts and the Embassy of Finland jointly organized an exhibition of textiles and other décors at Zahoorul Akhlaq Art Gallery of NCA Thursday. Finland Ambassador Harri Kamarainen opened the exhibition that is aimed at promoting intercultural understanding.

Speaking at the event, the ambassador expressed his pleasure on being in Lahore and the opportunity to showcase leading finish design products in partnership with Pakistan’s premier arts and design institution.  He expressed his hope that bilateral ties would grow.

The exhibition titled ‘Innovative Designs from Finland’ will last for two weeks, featuring innovative designs of Ittala, a brand specialising in glass objects such as tableware and cookware. Marimekko, a design house celebrated worldwide for its original prints and colours and work of iconic architect designer Alvar Aalto. Marimekko showcased all kinds of cloths from the 1950s to date.

Alvar Aalto, a finish architect designer work was also a treat to watch for the art lovers. His work included Aalto bowl, a sculpture of dove as a sign of peace. As a universal symbol of peace, it’s only fitting that the Mediator Dove strikes a perfect balance between simple and harmonious design.

With strong design roots in glassware and art glass, over time, iittala has expanded from glass to other materials such as ceramics and metal while keeping their key philosophy of progressive elegant and timeless design. Iittala focused on timeless designs which can be seen not only in older creations but in the modern classics.
