Long conferences are held in Islamabad, a lot of experts being called in to offer advice on the acute power shortage in the country. But no one has the moral courage to admit ignorance and incompetence of our rulers for having ignored the hydel power generation and doing nothing about construction of dams. In the short run, we might even have rental power stations or whatever just to come out of this lean patch, but in the long run, we will have to make Kalabagh dam to resolve the shortage of water and power. Quite amazing, though, that the Kalabagh dam is still the lowest on priority list of our solutions. Can we go on procrastinating on something as crucial as this just because the ANP would get annoyed and might even leave the coalition to endanger survival of this regime? Everyday we are drawing near the ultimate of all disasters but our politicians are still busy playing hooky with sense, lingering on and on with frivolous issues like the 18th amendment, which will probably be followed by a 19th and then 20 th. We are still debating validation of the degrees of half the house of Parliament? -AMJAD H. MIRZA, Lahore, April 28.
