We are sick of hearing the parliamentarians ruminate on and on in talk shows that they represent 'the 180 million people of Pakistan and that since people have voted them into power, they are cleared of all allegations. They repeat adnauseum that 'the 180 million people are the best judge and their verdict the one that matters. The PPP parliamentarians specially use this line to absolve President Zardari of all corruption saying after his unanimous election by 'representative of the 180m people, he is innocent as a newborn. Now let us work out the statistical truth of their representation of (you know, 180m) people. Out of the 180 million people (sic), only about 70 millions being registered voters, can be their total possible vote bank. Since the turn out of voters in elections is never more than 40 % (on best average) through out the country, this means only 28 million people had actually cast their votes. To round it off (by a couple of million), lets make it 30 million people. Now if we allocate all of these 30 million votes to various political parties and the independent candidates, our so-called leaders that claim to represent the entire nation dont get the support of too many of 'the 180 million in doing what they are doing to us, do they? -MUHAMMAD AZHAR KHWAJA, Lahore, April 26.
