MQM leader Altaf Hussain in his telephonic address to his partys simultaneous conventions in Karachi, Multan and Lahore issued an impassioned call for revolution. He threatened to confiscate estates of the feudal lords if his party is voted into power and also repeated his favorite call to overthrow the system dominated by a small minority which, he says, is only two percent of the countrys population. The thing is, he constantly contradicts himself. After all, isnt he a part of the same two percent himself, being a (permanent) part of the government both in Center and Sindh? He is and he also constantly campaigns 'against his own government? Come to think of it, MQM has always been in power, albeit in coalitions, ever since one can remember. Altaf Hussain is welcome to change the system when he wins a general election but he should desist from hunting with the hounds while he makes a show of running with the hare. MQM cannot be government and opposition all at the same time. Himself ensconced comfortably in luxuries of London, he lacks the moral authority to lead a revolution from there. He should come back to provide leadership to the people some of whom have been mesmerized into seeing hope of change in his statements. -BASHIR MALIK, Islamabad, April 26.
