KARACHI - A policeman was killed while three others including SHO Malir City injure during encounter in Salar Goth within the limits of Malir City police station.

The incident took place in Malir Salar Goth near Akbar Hotel where police party of Shah Latif and Malir City police station conducted raid on information of the presence of Lyari gangster in the area.

When the police party entered Salar Goth, criminals opened indiscriminate fire on them from two sides. Resultantly SHO Malir City Ishaq Lashari, constables Pervez Iqbal and Khan Muhammad and APC driver Sabir sustained bullet injuries.

Police also retaliated. Police official said the encounter continue for half hour. Later, police arrested two gangsters namely Mohsin Baloch and Abid Ali alias Kalu and recovered Kalashnikov from their possessions, while six others managed to flee from the scene.

Police shifted the injured to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where constable Pervez Iqbal succumbed to injuries.

DSP Rao Iqbal said accused belongs from Lyari gang war group and commander Fida Muhammad alias Fida Maliri still at large and they involved in several crimes including the murders of two lawyers Salahuddin Haider Jaffrey and his son Ali Raza Jaffrey who were killed in March 2012.

He said Shah Latif Police and Malir City Police had conducted raid in joint venture but gangster attacked on them and resultantly a constable was killed in that incident. Victim Pervez was deployed in Shah Latif police station and hailed from Peshawar, victim was the father of five children and his funeral process was offered in Malir Headquarter on Saturday.

 Police official said the APC and police mobile were also damaged in the encounter. Police registered two cases on the complaint of SHO Shah Latif and started tracing other gangsters. Further investigation was in process.
