LAHORE - Defending champion and International Master (IM) Mahmood Lodhi beat Shahzad Mirza in an exciting game on the third day of the 29th National Chess Championship here at the SISSA Hall on Monday. Although Lodhi got better of Shahzad Mirza, he is mesmerizing the spectators with his form as he is defeating all other rivals and prominent young players. In other notable games of the day, Ahmad Ali (Lahore) drew with Anwar Qureshi (Hyderabad), M Younis (Karachi) beat Ahmad Awais (Gujranwala), Fauzan Ullah (Lahore) lost to Waseem Gul (Sargodha), Mudassar Iqbal (Multan) beat M Ayub (Gujranwala) and M Zahid (Lahore) beat Tariq Hassan (Karachi). Two rounds are being played daily and championship will go on till April 30 when the final standings will be announced.–Staff Reporter
