Corruption charges on judges reviewed at SJC meeting

The meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council has begun here Saturday. The meeting, presided over by chief justice of Pakistan justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, will review the complaints of monetary irregularities against two judges of the Sindh and Lahore high courts, justice Afzal Soomro and justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha. The Supreme Judicial Council, in its meeting held on August 9, had issued notices to justice Abdul Shakoor Paracha of the Lahore High Court and justice Afzal Soomro of the Sindh High Court on the charges of monetary corruption. In todays meeting, further actions will be taken regarding charges made on the judges and other matters of the judges. Present at the council meeting are senior judges of the Supreme Court justice Javed Iqbal and justice Sardar Raza Khan, chief justice Lahore High Court justice Khwaja Sharif, chief justice Peshawar High Court Tariq Pervez and registrar Supreme Court Dr Faqir Hussain. According to sources, justice Afzal Soomro has submitted the reply of the notice while PIMSs doctor did not submit the reply and it was learnt that he is residing in the United States.
