Govt not to give extension to aged VCs

LAHORE-Federal government has decided not to accord more extension in the period of service of the aged Vice Chancellors of the universities who were granted extensions in the regime of General (Retd) Pervez Musharraf. Reliable sources say that 10 out 17 Vice Chancellors of the Punjab have crossed the retirement age and they were granted extension of 4 years or more during the previous regime. They include Lahore College for Women University VC Dr Bushra Mateen 67, GCU Lahore VC Dr Khalid Aftab 66, UET Lahore VC Gen (R) Muhammad Akram 70, UE Lahore VC Dr Munawar Sultana Mirza 65, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences VC Dr Muhammad Nawaz 65, University of Health Sciences VC Dr Hussain Mubashir 65, University of Gujrat VC Dr Muhammad Nizam-ud-Din 65, Fatima Jinnah Women University VC Dr Saeeda 61, BDZU Multan VC Dr Zafarullah 61 and Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University VC Dr Khalid Mehmud Khan 69. As per sources Dr Bushra Mateen, Lt Gen (R) Muhammad Akram and Dr Khalid Mahmud Khan have taken extension repeatedly. Now it has been finally decided both on Federal, as well as, provincial level that no extensions in the service will be given to any Vice Chancellor appointed several times on contract during the dictatorial regime as this is causing injustice to senior professors. A number of senior professors have gone on long leave or desired to go on premature retirement for the same reason, the higher education sources report.
