MALAKAND  - The Health Department has imposed dengue emergency in Malakand Division. To create awareness among general public a seminar was held at the Civil Hospital Thana, which was attended by District Health Officer Malakand Dr Mohammad Ali, Additional Assistant Commissioner Imran Khan, Exn C&W Jamil Ahmad, Dr Sabhi-u-din, In-charge Thana Hospital Dr Gulam Hussain and Professor Tahir.

The speakers told that Malakand is the gateway of District Swat and dengue fever is spreading speedily in the district, therefore, as a pre-cautionary measure, the Health Department has declared dengue emergency in Malakand. "Leaves of all health officials have been cancelled in Malakand," they added.  They told that no gangue case is diagnosed in Malakand so far but as precautionary measures we have started fumigation in Malakand while cleaning of drains, channels and water ponds have also been started.

 Spray in houses and bazaars will be carried out to protect from dengue virus.

Dr Sabhi-u-Din told that dengue fever caused by a special kind of mosquito that breeds in clean standing water. This mosquito bites usually at dawn and sun set times.

He advised the people that if dengue symptom is found in any human he must immediately contact the doctor and do not use medicine without doctor advice.

DHO Dr Mohammad Ali said that there is no need of panic.  We are just taking precautionary measures and for this purpose district administration, C&W, Public health, TMA are cooperating with Health Department. "We have launched an advocacy campaign as doctors will deliver special lectures on disease in all schools, colleges and mosques," he added. He said that pamphlets, leaflets will be distributed among public and banners will e displayed in all public places to create awareness against the deadly disease.

Xen C&W Jamil Ahmad and AAC Imran Khan offered their full support of their staffs and asked the masses that they should also take precautionary measures in their homes and keep clean their drains.
