Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan Thursday said grand consensus would be evolved before taking any action to maintain law and order in Karachi, the commercial hub of the country.
Replying to a point of order the minister said ‘Grand consensus is required to take any action in Karachi to maintain law and order. There is hope that it will be evolved, he added. The Minister said a special meeting of the Cabinet will be held at Governor House in Karachi to discuss the prevailing law and order situation in the provincial metropolis.
Opposing handing over of Karachi to Army he said this will be a disrespect to the mandate of the Sindh Government. He assured that all the steps will be taken after consultation with the provincial government.
He said time has come to divulge facts to the nation as situation in Karachi will not improve through speeches and point-scoring.
He said he has prepared a strategy for bringing an improvement in the metroplolis which will be presented before the special meeting in Karachi. Sharing broad contours of the framework Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said law and order is a provincial subject. He said there is a need of a targeted operation in Karachi against extortionists, criminals and kidnappers for ransom.
Nisar also suggested establishment of a monitoring committee under the supervision of Chief Minister Sindh to oversee the targeted operation. This committee should comprise politicians, senior media persons and senior citizens of Karachi.
He also informed the house that comprehensive external and eternal security plan would be prepared and that would be tabled in the parliament.
The minister also assured the MMQ leader Farooq Sattar that arrested persons of his party would be dealt as per law of the land. He said Supreme Court and High Courts’ help would be sought to take action against criminal elements.
Responding to the criticism of the opposition members over the absence of the Ministers from the House Ch. Nisar Ali Khan said it is the collective responsibility of both the treasury and opposition benches to ensure smooth functioning of the House. He assured that the government will always implement the proposals given by this House.
He said Advisor on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz will brief the House tomorrow about Pakistan’s stance on Syria as well as on other matters.
