A lawmaker said that the establishment of another university here is the need of the hour, adding that more than 20,000 students could not be accommodated in Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

Addressing a ceremony held in a private college with presence of over 250 students and their parents, he highlighted the performance of Punjab government and vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. He said that the government was spending huge funds for the promotion of education in Punjab province. He added that special attention was being given to open universities and medical colleges in backward areas of South Punjab.

The MPA urged the private sector college to establish a university in Ahmedpur East, a Sub-division of 1.2 million inhabitants. He offered to facilitate the group for allotting state land in the area for this purpose. It would not only generate revenue in private sector but also be an instrumental in the provision of quality education to youth in the region, he said. Earlier, the college group officials Suleman Farooqi, Arshad Saleem, Ehsan Ahmed, Syed Tanveerul Hassan and Principal Abid Siraj addressed the ceremony.

DEMISE: IUB Vice-Chancellor Dr Salim Tariq Khan expressed deep grief over the demise of former IUB Faculty of Islamic Learning dean Dr Abdur Rasheed Rehmat, and prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss. He paid rich tributes to the deceased over his remarkable teaching abilities, knowledge and services for the department.
