KASUR-Despite being caught red-handed using public property and declared guilty by the probing committee, the district administration is dragging its heels over registration of a case against Heart Specialist of the Kasur DHQ Hospital.

According to report of the two-member committee, led by the Kasur AC, Dr Shabbir Yazdani, Cardiologist of DHQ Hospital, has been found guilty of using Oxygen cylinders meant for the DHQ Hospital, at his private hospital Iqbal Poly Clinic.

On the other hand, the Pakistan Falah Party’s legal wing has decided to submit an application to the A-Division Police for registration of a case against the doctor.

It is to be recalled that a team of the district administration, led by Tehsildar along with mediamen and police raided Iqbal Poly Clinic, owned and run by Dr Shabbir Yazdani two days ago and recovered Oxygen cylinder and ‘medicines’ of the DHQ Hospital.

According to legal experts, it is a clear crime as the ‘accused’ has been caught red-handed using govt property and the administration should take action against him. However, the district administration ‘reluctance’ shows that they want to save the doctor and his patrons,” they pointed out, adding that the government must take action against the doctor to avert misuse of public property in the future.

Kasur DCO Ammara Khan had formed a committee led by the AC to probe the ‘scam’ and after a ‘thorough investigation,’ the doctor was found guilty of misusing the government property.

The citizens have questioned the DCO’s act of probe the misuse of public property by the doctor. They regretted that “the bureaucracy always rushes for thwarting any bid aims at eliminating corruption.” They asked the DCO to move against Dr Yazdani and also expose his nexus with other staffers in the DHQ Hospital to protect the interest of the masses. The citizens demanded Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the health secretary and the Lahore Division commissioner to suspend Dr Yazdani and take a stern action against him for misusing public property and abusing authority. They also demanded that the doctor must be ‘banish’ from the district. They said that there is already a great lack of facilities and shortage of equipment at the emergency and cardiac wards of the DHQ Hospital but the doctors are using the hospital’s equipment in their private clinics.

When Dr Shabbir Yazdani was contacted for his comment, he rejected all the allegations as baseless.
