PESHAWAR  – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Friday said the ANP had not asked Taliban to lay down arms rather demanded of them to renounce violence.

Commenting on TTP chief Hakimullah Mehsud's statement, Iftikhar said accepting offer of dialogue from Hakimullah would be a positive step. He said for success of negotiations it was important to abandon arms.

The KPK minister said the offer made by ANP chief Asfandyar Wali to Taliban was a serious, basic and logical effort; however, it was important to make progress for bringing peace.

He ruled out backdoor negotiations with Taliban, saying there was no need of it. Iftikhar said Taliban should form a committee for talks with the government.
