KARACHI  - Four suspects including two members of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed during separate encounters with the police.

Rangers also claimed to have arrested 10 suspects during targeted raids here on Sunday.

A suspected criminal was killed after an encounter with the police in old city area within the jurisdictions of Mithadar police station. Police said three robbers barged into a store. Police said police personnel, busy in routine patrolling, was informed by a passerby. Police immediately reached the site and after an encounter, one criminal was killed while two others managed to escape. One pistol was also claimed to be recovered by the police. Later, the deceased robber was identified as Baqar Nawab, resident of Surjani locality.

On wee hours of Sunday, two suspected militants were killed during an alleged encounter with the police in Orangi Town. Police said that the encounter took place when the police on a tip-off conducted a raid at the hideout of the militants at Raheem Shah Colony within the limits of Mominabad police station. Police said that the militants resorted to indiscriminate fire at the police and tried to escape, however, in retaliation, the police also fired back. After an exchange fire, two militants were killed. Police also claimed to have recovered two hand grenades and weapons from their possession. Their bodies were taken to morgue for identification after medicolegal formalities at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. They were later identified as Qasim and Rehmat.

SHO Shahzad Ilyas said Qasim was a notorious drug peddler-cum-terrorist and financer of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan-Swat and wanted to the police in more than 20 cases of murders and narcotics. Rehmat was the accomplice of Qasim. He was a land grabber and was involved in numerous killings.

One more suspected robber was killed during an exchange of fire with the police in Gulshan-e-Iqbal locality on Sunday. Police said that the encounter took place when the two young suspects riding a motorcycle were busy in looting a passerby on Rashid Minhas Road, adding that the police personnel busy on routine patrolling reached the site and killed one of the two suspects after an exchange of fire while his companion managed to escape. His body was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where he was later identified as Saad Shaikh, a resident of Shah Faisal Colony.

Separately, as many as seven suspected extortionists-cum-kidnappers s were taken into custody during a targeted raid in Akhtar Colony area of Mehmoodabad. Ranger’s spokesperson said that the gang was involved in numerous cases of kidnapping and extortion from traders and professionals while weapons were also recovered from their possession.

Similarly, Rangers also claimed to have recovered three criminals including a terrorist of a banned outfit. Ranger’s spokesperson said that the arrests were made when the Rangers troops conducted a raid at Golden Town area while weapons were also recovered from their possession.

COP GUNNED DOWN

A cop and a supporter of gangster group were killed within the jurisdictions of Pak Colony police station on Sunday evening.

The victim was identified as Abdul Hafeez Baloch, 35, and his companion as Khudadad Baloch, 36. The victim was posted to the court police and the incident took place when he was sitting near his residence at Lashari Muhallah in Jahanabad. SHO Irfan Asif said Khudadad was the supporter of Uzair Baloch group and six to eight armed men riding motorcycles were behind the incident. The culprits apparently belonged to the Uzair’s rival group – Baba Ladla group. Their target was Khudadad. Further investigation is underway.
