Police to engage ‘informers’ for better surveillance

Islamabad - Islamabad police have decided to engage community so as to have a better surveillance and ensure safety of the people.
Under a strategy to tackle with the criminals and keep an eye on the suspects, Islamabad police have appealed to youth to submit their details in relevant police stations if they want to become part of security and surveillance committees to be established at community level.
Those women who want to be part of these committees should provide their details at the Women Police Station Sitara Market.
The task of the members will be to keep a close watch on their surroundings and inform relevant police station or Rescue-15 about suspect things, people and vehicles.
Police will provide special cards to the citizens who will be members of the committees.
The name of a person, who will provide information about a suspect, will be kept secret and he will be provided complete protection.
According to Islamabad police spokesman,  due to the prevailing law and order situation, the local police with the cooperation of general public have formed a strategy to tackle the criminal elements.  “Public can play an important role in dealing with miscreants in the present situation,” he added.   
According to Inspector General Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, citizens can play an important role in eliminating crime from society.
He said citizens should perform their responsibility in the present circumstances, identify the criminal elements and completely cooperate with the police.
He said police with the cooperation of the public will eradicate the menace of terrorism from society.   
The federal government is utilising all possible resources to ensure safety of citizens and tackle the criminal elements, the IGP said.
He vowed to make Islamabad a peaceful city with the help of the citizens.
He said name of a person who will provide information about a suspect, will be kept secret and he will be provided complete protection.
