KARACHI - The Sindh government has declared the recruitment advertisement by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) as null and void.
The government asked the city council to avoid such practices without prior permission of the provincial government. This was revealed in a letter issued by secretary to Government of Sindh. It was stated that the higher authorities have taken serious view regarding publication of advertisement for the appointments in KMC. The government of Sindh has imposed complete ban on recruitments in the local councils due to excessive appointments in the year2012-2013, it added.
It said the KMC is facing shortage of funds for salary of employees for which a court petition has been filed against Sindh government. The court has directed for physical verification of all the employees of KMC, KDA and DMCs. Under the court direction, a committee consisting of special secretary, Director Local Government, Karachi, Deputy Secretary (General), Section officer (General) and one official of concerned council not below the rank of BS-18 has been working on daily basis for verification of KMC employees for the last two months, it added.
The letter further stated that the announcement and publication of advertisement for appointments without prior permission of government of Sindh is not justified. “You are directed to cancel the advertisement and forward schedule of establishment to assertion requirement and vacancies of staff in KMC,” it said.
“Being Mayor, I will not go against the government however the issue will be raised in proper way through a letter with a request to review its decision and finalise the matter of completing the vacant and available posts in the Karachi Metropolitan cooperation (KMC),” said Mayor Wasim Akhtar.
It is worth mentioning here that KMC which is already facing the financial crisis has spent millions of rupees on the advertisement for appointments in various department of KMC.
