SECP organises awareness


ISLAMABAD (APP): The SECP, taking forward its financial literacy campaign on investment education and awareness organized a seminar for the students of Foundation University at its campus in Rawalpindi. The seminar was organized by Department of Business and Economics of Foundation University. Dr. Amir Gulzar the Head of Business and Economics Department welcomed SECP officials at the campus,said a statement issued by SECP here on Saturday. In his opening remarks,he appreciated the apex regulatory authority for its proactive role for capacity building of the students. Chairman SECP’s vision for increasing awareness of financial markets, products with particular emphasis on fraud prevention was communicated to the attending students.

The students were informed about the role of SECP as the apex regulator of Non-Banking Finance sector.

Accordingly, students were encouraged to acquire learned financial behavior from the very start of their professional careers.

In this regard the focus of the seminar remained on promoting a culture of savings and investments.

A comprehensive portion of the seminar was about the Capital Markets, wherein the students were made familiar with the market operations and practices.

Another key feature of the program focused on educating the students about the investor education portal launched by SECP titled ‘Jamapunji’, its rich contents and multiple features.

The seminar was attended by a sizable group of students pursuing Master’s level education in Business and Economics. The seminar was followed by interactive discussion and Question & Answer session.

The participants appreciated SECP’s efforts in fulfilling its social responsibility in the area of investor education and awareness.

Financial assistance under BISP enhanced: Marvi

RAHIM YAR KHAN (APP): State Minister and Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon said Saturday the government enhanced budget of BISP from Rs 40 billion to Rs 105 billion with an aim to provide relief to the poor more effectively. She stated this in a ceremony related to inclusion of new deservings in BISP here at Shiekh Caliph Auditorium. The credit of enhancing budget of BISP goes to Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, she said and added that financial assistance amount to every beneficiary had also been increased from Rs 4500 to Rs 4700 which would be provided to the poor after three-month.

A comprehensive system had been evolved to ensure transparency and end the chances of corruption during the distribution of amounts to beneficiaries, Marvi said and added the amounts would be distributed through ID cards and Biometric verification by end the on-going year.

Marvi maintained the PML-N government was paying equal focus on progress and prosperity of every region in the country. The BISP is not limited to any province but it is a programme for the poor of all provinces.

Every possible step was being taken for welfare of people and facilities are provided at people’s doors step, she said.

The BISP Chairperson disclosed that a new survey would be launched in 2016, and only poor people would be the part of the financial assistance after the new survey.

Marvi Memon also lauded the Punjab government’s programme of “Qarz-e-Hasna” and stated that it would surely help minimizing poverty. She also urged the women to improve their skills and arts as it was vital to alleviate poverty.

Phenomenal decrease in

loadshedding visible: Abid Sher

FAISALABAD (APP): State Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Abid Sher Ali here Saturday said that phenomenal decrease in loadshedding was visible and consumers should not fall prey to the negative propaganda of opposition. Addressing an open court (Khuli Katchery) in Rasheed Chowk Samanabad area here, he said the government had totally ended loadshedding for industrial sector while minimum loadshedding was allowed to the commercial and domestic consumers. He said the government was now making its best efforts to bridge the gap between demand and supply of electricity while instructions had been issued to redress problems of consumers without any delay.

Abid Sher Ali said that he had directed all Superintending Engineers (SEs) to hold open courts and redress the grievances of consumers there and then.

He said the black sheep in the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO) who were creating problems for consumers and warned them to mend their way, otherwise they would be kicked out of the FESCO.

SE Second Circle FESCO Muhammad Yaqoob also addressed the

open court and said the best efforts were being made to provide uninterrupted electricity supply to the consumers.

He said that during open court 67 applications were presented to the minister who issued on the spot orders for the redressal of the same.

PTDC working on new national tourism policy

ISLAMABAD (APP): With the help of tourism stakeholders, Pakistan Tourism Development Cooperation (PTDC) is working to introduce a new National Tourism Policy. PTDC is getting feedback from the tourism industry stakeholders to get input on the proposed National Tourism Policy on the after effects of devolution of tourism to provinces and the problems, issues being faced by the tourism industry currently and their solutions said an official of PTDC. Alpine Club of Pakistan President, Travel Agents Association of Pakistan (TAAP), Adventure Foundation of Pakistan (AFP), Pakistan Association of Tour Operators (PATO) were being consulted to formulate the new policy.

He added that as per vision of Prime Minister of Pakistan, PTDC is struggling hard to promote tourism within the country and abroad to create a tourist friendly image of Pakistan all over the world.

Women Entrepreneurs Trade exhibition from March 4

PESHAWAR (APP): A three-day 3rd Women Entrepreneurs Trade exhibition organized by TDAP, federal ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry Peshawar will start from March 4 here at Services Club. In the event women exhibitors from Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Haripur, Abbotabad, Mansehra, Chitral, Gilgit, Bannu, DI Khan and other cities of county such as Lahore, Multan, Faisalabd, Karachi will take participation. President Women Chamber Nasira Nomani said that the event aim is to encourage the women entrepreneurship development from the grassroots level through organizing seminars, workshops and products exhibition both on nation and international level.
