LAHORE - The Divisional Public School, Model Town is neglected since the past 10 months as no meeting of the Board of Governors (BOG) was held after March 2008. The only meeting held after a long wait while it is mandatory to hold the meeting after every three months. The meeting is usually chaired by the District Coordination Officer (DCO), Lahore as chairman BOG by virtue of his office. Prior to the Local Government System, the commissioners acted as chairmen of the BOG, DPS who not only frequently presided over the meetings but also contributed to the development of the school, which is now considered as one of the best schools in the City. Now when the divisional headquarters have been revived and commissioners of all the nine divisions including Lahore have been appointed, it has yet to be decided who would chair the BOG meetings. The BOG members of the school, however, demand that the old system be revived and Commissioner, Lahore be appointed as chairman of the BOG. They say that the City District Government never allocated any grant to the DPS, Model Town nor squarely contributed to its development. The DPS, an autonomous institution par excellence, is known for its quality of education and discipline. It has 12,000 on campus students, both boys and girls from KG to higher secondary education.
