MINGORA (APP) The joint candidate of ruling alliance of ANP and PPP, Rehmat Ali Khan here Thursday won the by-election for PF-83 Swat-IV and retained the seat that was fallen vacant due to sad demise of his brother. According to unofficial results here, ANP candidate Rehmat Ali secured 6,952 votes while his close runner-up Jalat Khan of PML-Q bagged 3,304 votes. Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf candidate Sher Khan obtained 3,208 votes and former NWFP minister and JI candidate Hussain Ahmed Kanju secured 2,820. The polling was held peacefully and the electorates exercised their right of franchise in a free, fair and transparent manner in the constituency that remained epicentre of insurgency during last two years. The constituency was vacant due to tragic demise of MPA Shamsher Ali Khan in a suicide attack at Kabal Tehsil. The polling started at 8:00 am and continued till 5:00 pm without any break. In the morning, the turnout was low due to heavy rain while in afternoon long queues of voters were seen in the polling stations. Great hustle and bustle was witnessed among young voters as they have installed stickers on their cars, pickups and motorbikes. Police have been deployed at all the entry and exit points of the constituency and wearing of shawl was not allowed for security purposes. The Election Commission set up 80 polling stations and the whole constituency had been declared sensitive. The number of total registered voters in the constituency was 114,658 including 69,223 male and 43,435 female.
