LHC stops PR from firing employees

RAWALPINDI Lahore High Court (LHC), Rawalpindi bench, on Thursday stopped Pakistan Railways (PR) from terminating the services of contractual employees while hearing a petition moved by contractual workers. The LHC issued the interim order and directed Chairman PR and MD Carriage Factory, Islamabad, to submit their response till February 3. Sixteen contractual workers of the factory in their petition maintained that they had been working in the factory for the last three years on temporary basis. They said the PR had advertised the posts afresh and would induct new workers on regular basis while the already working force would be terminated. The petitioners said as they were experienced workers and would be unable to get new jobs, as they were overage, so they should be regularised, besides induction of regular staff. They also prayed to the court to stop the Railways administration from terminating their services till their petition was decided.
