KARACHI President Asif Ali Zardari on Thursday announced that Local Bodies elections in Sindh would be held on party basis in four months time, stressing that coalition government would complete its five-year tenure and in the process would strengthen the Parliament and democracy. Addressing a gathering here after inaugurating a series of development projects for Sindh, soon after his return from Istanbul, the President said:our earlier PPP governments lasted only 18 months and three years, but this time our coalition government would cover full term and the democratic process will continue. The next general elections would be held as per schedule after five years and the government would fulfil the promises made by the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto by following their vision, he asserted. According to him, Lyari has always played a key role in the national politics and would continue to be the heart and soul of PPP. He directed the Karachi administration for satellite mapping of the entire City and to update it regularly to meet the development schemes requirements. 'I do not want to see the progress of these projects only on papers, Zardari said and ,added, 'I want to see on my computer, the kids playing in the new parks which should be part of the development projects. The President called for announcing high density projects in Karachi to cope with the rapid growth of the City and to turn it into a model City. He ,however, noted that this could be done only if the City launches income generation schemes. He said he would also inaugurate a modern City - Zulfikar Abad,with its location between Karachi and Hyderabad, hoping the place would be a crime free locality and provide the most modern amenities of life to its people. He desired that the work on the project should be completed in a months time. President Zardari said a special 'waste-water project would be launched to recycle the water of Lyari stream. He declared that soon a special housing scheme would be announced for Lyari. He said in this regard the land would be provided by the Chief Minister, while funds would be provided by the Federal government. The President also called for establishing a special small industrial zone for Lyari and directed Secretary General to the President Salman Farooqui to give special attention to this project. He said in the light of poverty survey, the poorest of the poor will get free residential quarters across the country. He recalled his affiliation with Lyari and said Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto contested election from Lyari and said he himself was nominated from Lyari, and after getting elected was sent to Islamabad as an MNA. The President, who began his speech with a slogan of 'Jeay Bhutto, ended his remarks with 'Pakistan Khappay. Earlier, President Asif Ali Zardari inaugurated the Cardiac Institute of Lyari General Hospital and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Medical College Lyari. The President was briefed about the projects that have been set up in the relatively under developed area of the City and were aimed at providing better health and education facilities for the masses. He also inaugurated the Behan Benazir Basti and Thatta-Shujawal Road. He also distributed keys of houses built by the government among the successful women recipients, hailing from Thatta, for the 'Behan Benazir Basti. The government has provided 400 houses in the areas of Thatta and Badin for the most deserving people, and a total of 300,000 such houses will be constructed across the country. Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ibad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah attended the function.
