ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has appreciated the steps taken by legal fraternity for the rule of law and underlined the need for stepping up effort to curb corruption as it not only undermines the image of institution but also hampers the administration of justice.

He was talking to a 15-member delegation of the newly-elected officebearers of Rawalpindi District Bar Association headed by President Sajid Ilyas Bhatti Saturday.

Felicitating the newly-elected body, the chief justice said, “It is a tremendous achievement for you people as you have been given the mandate as the representatives of the bar to work for their welfare and betterment. It is a good omen and indicates democratic approach of legal fraternity that every year the representatives of the bars are elected by their members”. The delegation apprised him about their future planning for the betterment of bar and to keep a vigilant eye over the venal practices causing bad name for the institution.
