KARACHI- Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has said that true potential of livestock, dairy, fisheries, poultry and agriculture sectors in Sindh is yet to be exploited.

“Events such as Livestock Dairy Fisheries Poultry and Agriculture Exhibition 2012 provide the platform to potential buyers; business community and value chain providers,” said Nisar Ahmed Khuhro while addressing the closing session of LDFA 2012 Seminar at Expo Centre Karachi here on Saturday.

He further stated that provincial government endowed immense importance and set ambitious targets to pursue investment opportunities which are available in livestock, dairy, fisheries, poultry and agriculture sectors by focusing on value addition and export.

Addressing the seminar, Zahid Ali Burghuri, Provincial Minister for Fisheries, stated that livestock, agriculture and fisheries are the backbone of any agrarian economy and Government of Sindh is taking all measures to bring in the technology for efficiency of these sectors.

Shehla Raza, Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly believed that LDFA 2012 would prove to be an effective platform to achieve all the objectives set under LDFA 2012 for growers and farmers to get awareness in this regard.

She further stated that livestock, fisheries and agriculture sectors have huge potential for growth.

Secretary Livestock and Fisheries stated that livestock contributes approximately 54% of value addition in the agriculture sector and share 14% of the GDP.

He explained that the department is developing a state of the art exclusive dairy and livestock economic zone at Bhambore, Thatta. There has been a recent trend of businessmen diversifying into non-conventional yet vital sectors such as dairy and livestock.

Various other speakers from both public and private sectors also shared their views, experiences and future plans during the seminar to strengthen the livestock, dairy, fisheries, poultry and agriculture sectors. During that LDFA 2012, over 350 exhibitors participated; more than 100,000 visitors are expected to attend the event.

The 2nd Edition of LDFA and Seminar was organized by Sindh Board of Investment in collaboration with provincial Livestock and Agriculture Departments.

The event was a continuation of LDF Exhibition 2011 which was a great success. Strengthened by the success of LDF-2011, this year’s edition includes Agriculture along with Livestock, Dairy, Fisheries, Poultry (LDFA-2012) to widen scope of activities and benefits of the success of the event to potential participants.
