MULTAN - Chief of JUI-S Maulana Samiul Haq has said that the restoration of Nato supply through any parliamentary recommendation will be a treason with the country, hurling a warning to the government that any decision like this will be strongly resisted.

“If the parliament makes a decision to restore Nato supply, we’ll besiege the parliament and its members,” he declared while addressing a news conference here on Saturday. Earlier, many other parties like Jamaat-e-Islami have also hurled the same warnings to the government on this issue.

Maulana Samiul Haq added that the quarters loyal to this country would stop government from restoring Nato supply with power, if needed. He was of the opinion that facilitating Nato was tantamount to making mockery of the sacrifices rendered by the martyrs of Salala.

To a query on chances of Nawaz Sharif and Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s participation in the upcoming third Difa-e-Pakistan Conference in Multan, he disclosed that both the leaders were invited but so far no reply was received from their side. Referring to the goals of the conference, he said that there was no political motive behind this activity. “We’re focused on just one-point agenda and that is defence of Pakistan,” he added.

He lashed out at the US, saying she wanted to make Pakistan like Iraq and Afghanistan.  “That’s why I request the entire nation to rise for national security and country’s sovereignty as well as to foil American conspiracies,” he maintained.

Talking to the journalists on the occasion, Amir of Jamaatud Dawa Hafiz Saeed said that on one hand India changed the direction of Pakistani rivers and turned the country barren while on the other hand our government branded her as the most favourite nation. “It’s weird. What kind of friendship is this? They’re determined to kill us while we’re putting garlands in their neck,” he posed a question to the rulers. He said that the rulers had become security risk for the country as they permitted American and Indian agents to operate freely in Pakistan. He hoped that the conference would prove an important mile stone in movement for the defence of Pakistan’s sovereignty.

Addressing the press conference, chief of Ahle Sunnat Waljamat Pakistan (ASWP) Maulana Ahmad Ludhyanvi said that about half a million citizens were likely to attend the conference at the divisional sports ground. He added that the volunteers of ASWP had taken the charge of the venue and foolproof security arrangements were made. He said that 70000 chairs were placed in the pandal for public while another 1000 for the special guests.

Polio vaccination campaign kicked off: Three-day anti-polio vaccination drive started here on Saturday. DCO Nausheen Jamshed kicked off the campaign here at civil hospital. During the drive, over 6.6 million children will be vaccinated during the campaign. The health department has formed 1741 teams for administering polio drops to children while a central control room has also been established to monitor the performance of teams. It is said that the polio teams will go door to door to vaccinate the children. Similarly, stalls will be established at all schools, bus and wagon stands, railway stations, airport and other public places to ensure vaccination of 100 percent children.

Later on chairing a meeting held to review arrangements for upcoming campaign, she directed all departments to fully cooperate with health officials for making the campaign a complete success. She warned that no negligence would be tolerated in polio drive.

She asked health officials to make foolproof arrangements for launching of a successful drive. She urged upon the public to cooperate with polio teams and get their children vaccinated. “This is the only way we can eliminate this disease from our country,” she added. She assured health officials that the district administration would fully cooperate with them. She further asked clerics and other opinion leaders to play their role for making the drive successful.

It may not be out of place that the health department has declared South Punjab a high-risk territory for the spread of this disease as many cases are reported from Multan, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Bahawalpur and DG Khan. Similarly, the presence of virus in sewerage water is also confirmed.
