Rawalpindi - An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday issued arrest warrants for former Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Yasin Farooq for not appearing before the court, despite receiving summons, for recording his statement in Benazir Bhutto (BB) murder case.

The court also ordered City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi to arrest the former police officer and present him before the court.

According to details, ATC Special Judge Pervaiz Ismail Joya took up the BB assassination case in Adyala Jail and issued arrest warrants for former SSP (Operations) Yasin Farooq for not turning up before the court of law for recording his statement as prosecution witness despite receiving summon issued by the court.

The judge directed CPO Rawalpindi to arrest Farooq and produce him before the court.

Meanwhile, the other two prosecution witnesses including SP Ashfaq Anwar and Ismail, a telephone operator of the country’s premier intelligence agency, did not attend the court hearing. The both prosecution witnesses were to record their statements in BB murder case. The counsel for SP Ashfaq Khan filed an application with the court stating that the court should award time to SP Ashfaq Anwar, who is serving as SP in Dera Bugti (Balochistan) and summon him on Monday (February 2) as it would be easy for him to catch a flight from Quetta to Islamabad to appear before the court.

Meanwhile, the court was also informed that summon of telephone operator of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Ismail was received on the gate of his office.  Besides, former CPO Syed Saud Aziz, former SP Rawal Division Khurram Shehzad, and the five accused held in connection with BB murder case were also present in courtroom. The court deferred the hearing in BB assassination case till today (Thursday) while summoning four prosecution witnesses including SP Ashfaq Anwar and Ismail, telephone operator of ISI for recording their statements.
