HEC to introduce Britsh Council’s AC in 42  universities

LAHORE (PR): Higher Education Commission Pakistan will introduce Britsh Council’s Active Citizen Programme (ACP) in 42 universities of Pakistan and in the coming years all universities will be implementing ACP in the curriculum as a mandatory course for undergraduates as it is being adopted in Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), Lahore.

This was announced by chairman Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed while addressing as the chief guest in a ceremony organized jointly by British Council and LCWU.

Dr Mukhtar appreciated LCWU’s effort in making possible ACP and announced that HEC will launch Social Enterprise Resource Centre in Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) this year for the students to enhance their Social Entrepreneurship skills to enable them to provide sustainable income resource generation within the local communities with which they engage.

Directorate of Faculty Development and Internationalization (DFDI) of Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) successfully completed the 2nd Phase of Active Citizen Programme Year 2013-14. To celebrate the occasion Showcasing of Social Action Projects and Certificate distribution ceremony was organized in a local hotel. Ciaran Devane – Chief Executive Officer, British Council, Adrian Greer - Chief Operating Officer, British Council, Stephan Roman – Regional Director S. Asia, Shazia Khawar – Regional Director Society, Peter Upton – Director Pakistan British Council, Kevin McLaven – Director Punjab, British Council were the delegates who attended this ceremony.

Prof Dr Sabiha Mansoor, Vice Chancellor  LCWU in her  address stated that community engagement was one of the pillars of the vision of LCWU and the British Council’s support in introducing the ACP at LCWU as a pilot programme is a welcome initiative which is making a change in the personality development if not only the thousands of girls studying at LCWU but will also impact their households and communities positively, thereby causing positive change across the country. VC explained that the mission of the Active Citizens Programme in LCWU is to encourage young females to be socially responsible by developing and delivering sustainable projects on themes such as education, social issues, poverty, Information Technology, Environment, Health and Hygiene.  The ACP also aims to facilitate the young souls to visualize the mental picture of a world in which increasing connections of youth in the communities lead to positive outcomes, resulting in a world where people feel empowered to engage peacefully and effectively with others in sustainable development of the communities.

Kaymu.pk partners with Tune.pk

KARACHI (PR): Kaymu.pk, an online marketplace, has collaborated with Tune.pk, one of the leading video sharing platforms, to boost Pakistan’s ecommerce sector. Tune.pk will now act as Kaymu.pk’s official digital video content partner.

Along with other synergies, Kaymu.pk will create a dedicated channel on Tune.pk and will also explore cross branding opportunities to help both platforms grow aggressively.

Speaking on the partnership, Country Manager Kaymu.pk Mr Adam Dawood said, “We are very excited about the opportunities created between Pakistan’s largest video streaming service and the largest ecommerce marketplace. Using Tune.pk we will be able engage much more closely with a young and optimistic audience. MoU for poultry short courses

LAHORE (PR): TEVTA will sign MoU with University of Veterinary & Animal Sciences (UVAS) and Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) to introduce demand driven short courses. The poultry related short courses will be introduced soon in cooperation with UVAS and Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA). In this regard, a draft of MoU is being prepared by TEVTA for finalizing the details of cooperation among TEVTA, UVAS and PPA.

This was stated by Chairperson TEVTA Irfan Qaiser Sheikh while addressing a meeting for launching short courses for poultry industry.

Chief Operating Officer Jawad Ahmed Qureshi, General Manager (Academics) TEVTA Engr. Azhar Iqbal Shad, Director R&D Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Shah and others were also present on this occasion.

People’s Unity appointments

LAHORE (PR): People’s Unity Pakistan’s central president Hidayat ullah and secretary general Ismail Baluch have appointed ex-organizing secretary Rana Kashif as president, People’s Unity Lahore and Masood ul Hassan as General Secretary. All the workers and leaders congratulated the two on their recent appointments.

Gymbo activities

LAHORE (PR): The DHA and Gulberg Gymboree centers in Lahore hosted a winter wonderland party recently exclusively for its members. Over 100 people attended each party. Parents, children and friends had a lot of fun with snowfall and other fun filled Gymbo activities, ending with a bonfire and snacks.

13th convocation of Iqra University

KARACHI (PR): The 13th convocation of Iqra University was celebrated on Wednesday at the main campus of Iqra University. Dr Samar Mubarak Mand was the chief guest and keynote speaker. 600 graduates were awarded with Graduate and Post Graduate degrees. 10 Scholars were conferred Ph.D. degrees in the disciplines of education and learning sciences, management sciences, computer science and telecommunication engineering. Thus, Iqra University fulfilled its commitment of providing crafted human capital and excellent knowledge contributors.

OPPO announces photography contest

LAHORE (PR): To enable more people to share their photographic fun and great moments, OPPO has officially launched “It’s Your Turn” global mobile photography contest, inviting mobile owners worldwide to share their stories with photographs.

The three-week contest will center on three themes – “Selfie Showdown”, “Our World”, and “Inspiring Moments”. White Turban notebook

LAHORE (PR): White Turban is a Pakistan-based art consultancy that helps to promote Pakistani artists, focusing on the diversity of local art practices in contemporary art. It represents artists on different platforms; both locally and internationally. White Turban has so far gathered over eighty artists on board, assisted international art organizations in working with Pakistani artists and secured representation in international galleries.

White Turban started the New Year with a book launch of their first publication, a sleek Artist’s Notebook, designed with tasteful inserts of images of works by Contemporary Pakistani Artists. The launch event was held recently at X2Cultural Hub, Gulberg III. Salima Hashmi and Quddus Mirza were present on the occasion. Launch was accompanied with an art exhibition with works of renowned artists.
