islamabad - Founder Rector of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) Islamabad Dr S. M. Junaid Zaidi’s tenure was extended for one year. The decision was taken during a meeting of CIIT Board of Governors presided over by Rana Tanveer Hussain, Federal Minister for Science and Technology as Chancellor CIIT.  
Appreciating more than a decade long contribution by Dr Junaid Zaidi and for continuation of various ongoing initiatives, the board approved further one-year extension. Board of Governors (BOG) consisting of eminent scientists, educationists and policymakers including Executive Director, COMSATS, Secretary  Ministry of Science and Technology and representatives of Ministry of Information Technology, Ministry of Education, Higher Education Commission, NESCOM, PAEC etc., and the academia.
Dr S. M. Junaid Zaidi, S.I. is the Founder Rector of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Pakistan’s first exclusive institute of information technology. The CIIT was awarded Charter by the Government of Pakistan in 2000 and in less than a decade, it has grown into a quality institution of higher learning under his able leadership.
CIIT now has eight campuses in seven cities, a student population of around 35,000 and faculty base of about 3,000, out of them about 1200 are PhD. In addition to Information Technology, the Institute offers several bachelor, master and doctoral programs in engineering, basic sciences, management sciences and architecture. Dr Zaidi’s professional experience spans  more than 40 years in a diverse range of fields. The establishment of IT ventures and development of IT policies remains the epic highlight of his career.
