ISLAMABAD - Public Accounts Committee (PAC) yesterday expressed displeasure over Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) for not allowing audit of Universal Service Fund (USF) worth Rs 62 billion.

The PAC, chaired by Sardar Ashiq Gopang, summoned Secretary Information Technology in its next meeting to brief the reason behind disallowing audit of USF.

Reviewing the audit objection of USF of PTA (2013-14), the audit officials revealed that Information Technology had disallowed audit for USF worth Rs 62 billion. These funds were formed for the development of information technology in underdeveloped areas.

The committee asked PTA to collect pending dues worth Rs31 billion of different. “PTA should also verify its accounts in two months,” says Gopang while chairing the committee meeting in the absence of Syed Kursheed Shah.

The committee also discussed the matters related to non-implementation of PAC’s orders by ministries.

Sheikh Rohail Asghar, a PAC member, commented that it is weakness of chairman PAC. “What is the use of conducting meeting of PAC, when there is no implementation on our decisions,” said Asghar, adding that there should be a proper action against those who are not fulfilling PAC orders.
