KARACHI - Tug-of-war between the federal government and Sindh government has started following the press conference of Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday.

In response to the interior minister’s criticism, PPP leaders termed the federal minister a torchbearer of Taliban and demanded Nisar to step down over his failure to implement the National Action Plan (NAP).

Addressing a press conference at PPP Media Cell, Karachi, PPP parliamentary leader in senate, Saeed Ghani said after the APS tragedy, unity of the nation was need of the hour but there were some persons who are plotting to create a valley of difference which PPP will not allow to happen. “The behaviour of Chaudhry Nisar is beyond our senses as whom he is serving now.”

Ghani was flanked by adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Information Maula Bux Chandio, Sharmilla Farooqui, MNA Dr Shahida Perveen, Sindh minister Rubina Qaimkhani and others. Addressing the media men, Senator Ghani said it was yet to decide whether Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is assisting Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the country or any other anti-state force through his confrontational statements and gestures. “It is an irony that after the second largest national tragedy of terror attack on the innocent students and employees of Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, Chaudhry Nisar had disappeared. He is famous for resuming his office when the stage of powers extension of Rangers arrives. In recent past, he had created a confrontational state between the federation of Pakistan and the province with regards to a resolution about the powers of Rangers. As time has once again arrived for revalidation of extension in Rangers’ powers, the federal interior minister has once again emerged on the surface,” he added.

Unfortunately, he was seen nowhere after the terror attack on Bacha Khan University in Charsadda in Peshawar, he said. “Chaudhry Nisar is the member of federal cabinet and whatever he is sowing would either prove fruitful to the PM or would damage him. It is the PM’s case to decide what to do with him. The nation is watching him closely and would be answerable for having a soft corner in his heart for the deadly terrorist forces like Daesh and Taliban,” he opined.

Chandio said the federal interior minister was serving to none rather creating rifts among the federation and the provinces especially Sindh through his furious verbal attacks. He said it looks as if he was making all efforts to protect certain elements that are challenging the writ of the state. Operation Zarb-e-Azb, NAP and targeted operation in Karachi were all launched on the demands from the national parties in Sindh and Nisar was nowhere on the canvas.Chandio said Nisar was deliberately making the letter, pertaining to powers of Rangers, controversial. Being the federal interior minister, he is liable to tell the nation as why millions of people are standing in long queues for obtaining passport so that they could leave the country over insecurity.

He said it was a routine that the security forces and law enforcement agencies were nabbing the militants of Daesh and TTP from Punjab and Islamabad but the federal interior minister is keeping his eyes closed from this open situation.

He advised Chaudhry Nisar that he should perform in a way to represent the federation of the country. He should stop maligning Sindh for everything. The PPP Jiyalas could not forget the time when late Benazir Bhutto was indicted in fake cases and she wandered in the courts from here to there. However, neither she nor Asif Ali Zardari ever took revenge from anyone and they had eliminated the politics of revenge in their respective tenures.

Earlier, responding to press conference of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Sindh Senior Education and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro has also demanded Chaudhry Nisar to step down from his post. He said the federal interior minister had failed to show responsibility regarding implementation of the NAP.

Talking to the media men outside the Sindh Assembly building, he asked Nisar to show his medical certificate that he is ill or it was a drama. He said the interior minister was holding others responsible for his failure and considers himself as a prime minister.

The provincial minister said it was a matter of great concern that terrorists’ activities were increasing across the country. Terrorists were targeting educational institutions. These incidents clearly reflect the failure of the federal government in implementing the NAP in letter and spirit and Chaudhry Nisar should resign following the Bacha Khan University attack, he added.

Khuhro further asked Chaudhry Nisar to visit Sindh and interact with the people so that he may be aware of the ground realities. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif visited Sindh but Nisar’s refusal to visit the province confirms that he is fleeing from fulfilling his responsibilities.

Chaudhry Nisar is afraid of coming to the province but this is not the tenure of Pervez Musharraf that he will be spared, he added.

Talking about the Sindh government plan for the security of education institutions, Khuhro informed that provincial government are taking effective precautionary and preventive measures which include patrolling of LEAs, installation of CCTVs, scout training to students and others. The government is also carrying out the anti-criminal operation, he said.
