National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retired) Javed Iqbal Monday ordered reopening of investigation into alleged irregularities in Chiniot Iron Ore project, said a statement issued by the watchdog.

The NAB chief has tasked the Lahore director general with the responsibility of probing the case. "The guidance could be sought from the decisions of the high court and Supreme Court," said the statement.

"The NAB Lahore has also been directed to ascertain the reasons behind closing the inquiry so that the responsibility could be fixed and action be taken against the responsible officers," it added.

According to details, the mining contract had been allegedly awarded to a close relative of a civilian aide of the then Punjab chief minister.
