A time-honoured trick

I am a married man and do not always agree with my wife on all matters. When I want to refuse her demands, I apply two tactics. One, I often change the location of discussion. Take her out to parks, or restaurants or even to another city for a short trip. Two, I delay the decision. Both these tactics often help kill the demand. She stops demanding the thing. I never refuse; the demand dies it own death. Time heals automatically. Looking at Zardari and Nawaz disagreeing on restoration of judges and delaying it further and further, I wonder how did they come to know my 'trick'. I hope my wife does not read this. She mostly does not read newspapers, except the crosswords. -AMJAD HABIB MIRZA, Lahore, via e-mail, July 13.
