According to a news item, British Prime Minister David Cameron recently took a commercial flight on an official visit to US, thereby, saving the exchequer around $300,000. Under normal circumstances a Prime Minister would charter a Boeing 747 or 767 for private use or fly on a military jet. The amount isnt probably that significant but the gesture is huge. In con-trast, Pakistans Law Minister, Dr. Babar Awan chartered a private plane to fly around the country to distribute government funds to Bar Councils of his choice. Like a sovereign monarch, he has been showering money, sometimes as much as Rs 50,000, on mere recitations of Naat to Naat-Khwans at his functionsfrom public funds. The point I am trying to make is that politicians have to be honest themselves before they can observe probity in public funds. -DR GHAYUR AYUB, London, July 23.
