MIRPUR (AJK) - After the reports of heavy impending flood in Mangla Dam Reservoir, the district administration on Wednesday took required preventive measures to deal with any eventuality, officials said. Disclosing this, Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Muhammad Tayyeb Chaudhry told The Nation that precautionary measures were being taken by the administration to encounter the impending flood ravages in the reservoir of Mangla Dam following the torrential rains in the catchments. He said that Wapda sources informed the local administration about the flooding of the rivers falling in the reservoir of the countrys second largest Mangla Dam. Tayyeb said that the population in the areas along the periphery of the Mangla Lake have been directed to shift to the safer places to avert the increased threat of the flood ravages to men and material. The DC said district-level emergency control room has been established at his office similar to the centres set up in his office. Similar control rooms are also being set up in the Deputy Commissioners offices in all 10 districts of AJK. These centres will function round the clock for bringing about immediate necessary safety steps in case of emergency in any part of the district. The district-level emergency cell in Mirpur District could be contacted through the official telephone at the DC office. Similarly, the Mirpur tehsil level emergency cell could be approached through telephone at Assistant Commissioner office and Dadayal Tehsil-level emergency cell could be contacted through telephone if needed. At the same time, district and tehsil level emergency centres have started functioning in various parts of AJK in order to deal with any eventuality following impending flood ravages in normal and seasonal nullahs as well as in low-lying areas during the monsoon rains.
