KARACHI – Sindh High Court Chief Justice Mushir Alam on Saturday said those, who were not hesitating in bypassing the law to sustain their style of governance, wanted to govern according to their liking and whims.
The chief justice said the Constitution authorised the judiciary to play its role in the matters of national importance and basic human rights.
He further added that the judiciary would never backtrack and keep intervening to ensure the supremacy of the Constitution and law. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the three-month advocacy training programme, organised in collaboration with the Karachi Bar Association Legal Rights Forum and the Law and Justice Commission, Justice Alam warned that some circles desired to continue with the tradition of trampling the Constitution, as he asked the lawyers’ community to take steps for strengthening the judiciary. He further said independent democracy, judiciary and media were a product of sustained struggle of lawyers.
