BASEL, Switzerland (DS):

A full moon can lead to a more restless night’s sleep, new research has found. Psychiatrist Dr Christian Cajochen, from the University of Basel in Switzerland, claimed that there is scientific evidence to suggest that the link between the lunar cycle and sleep is not just a myth, MSN News reports. However, it is not the moon’s brightness or gravitational influence that has an effect on sleep but an internal body clock that follows the lunar cycle. According to Dr Cajochen, sleep is influenced even on nights when the moon is hidden by cloud.

“The lunar cycle seems to influence human sleep, even when one does not ‘see’ the moon and is not aware of the actual moon phase,” he explained.
