PESHAWAR - The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is ready to hand over Dr Shakil Afridi to the federal government.

Advisor to KPK Chief Minister for Jail, Malik Qasim, while talking to media persons Sunday said that the provincial government has forwarded a request to the federal govt in this regard. He was optimistic that the provincial govt will get positive response in this regard. Malik Qasim said that there were no restrictions on Dr Afridi to meet with his family members. 

The KPK government has time and again requested the federal govt to take Dr Afridi in its custody due to the security concerns in Peshawar, however, the federal government has not agreed yet, officials said. It is worth mentioning here that wife and children of Dr Shakil Afridi had met him at central jail Peshawar. Dr Afridi was sentenced to 33 years in jail on May 24, 2012 for allegations of aiding banned militant outfit LI.

The doctor has also been accused of helping CIA in hunting down Osama bin Laden by launching a fake vaccination campaign in Abbottabad.
