PESHAWAR - Pakistan People’s Party-Parliamentarians (PPPP) has formally withdrawn its candidate in favour of Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour of Awami Nation Party (ANP) from NA-1, Peshawar-I, for by-election being held on August 22.

Now the ANP candidate Haji Ghulam Bilour, who lost to PTI Chairman Imran Khan in last general election on May 11 with a huge margin, will be a joint candidate of ANP, JUI-F and PPP.

To give tough fight in by-elections to the ruling coalition government partners led by PTI, JI and QWP in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ANP, PPP and JUI-F have also joined hands. In this connection, the JUI-F and ANP had already made an electoral alliance and both the parties were trying hard to win by-elections in the province. It has been learnt that after their formal alliance, all the three parties had agreed in principle on fielding joint candidates and a formal announcement in this connection would be made soon.

According to the formula, the PPP and JUI-F would support ANP candidates Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour on NA-1 (Peshawar-I) and Ahmad Bahadar Khan on PK-23 (Mardan-I).

In return, the ANP and JUI-F would support PPP’s candidate Tariq Hameed Khattak on NA-5 (Nowshera-I) while the PPP and ANP would support JUI-F on NA-13 Swabi, NA-25 DI Khan-cum-Tank, NA-27 Lakki Marwat and PK-70, Bannu.

With the support of PPP and JUI-F, the ANP candidate for NA-1, Peshawar-1, Ghulam Ahmad Bilour is now a strongest candidate in the run so far. The allied parties have formally started their election drive from PK-3 two days back, in which they vowed to win all the seats in by-elections.
