Sharif brothers discuss presidential, LG polls

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif met with his brother Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif here on Sunday and discussed strategy for presidential elections in Punjab Assembly and the proposed draft of local government system as well as the local bodies’ elections in the province.
They decided to convene a provincial parliamentary party meeting today (Monday) which would be addressed by PML-N presidential candidate Mamnoon Hussain. The CM minister also briefed the PM about the proposed legislation for local government (LG) elections.
The prime minister asked the chief minister to devise a local government system which devolves maximum powers at the grass roots, resolve problems of the people and ensure prosperity.
The prime minister expressed satisfaction over the campaign against electricity and gas theft in Punjab and asked the chief minister to speed up the campaign against power thieves.
Earlier while talking to Lahore district assembly members, Shahbaz Sharif said that electricity and gas theft was a great menace in which some big fish were also involved and they are being made accountable. He said these anti-social elements are robbing the nation of billions of rupees and they deserve no mercy.
The chief minister said that along with the factory owners involved in electricity and gas theft, corrupt government officers were also being taken to task. He advised the lawmakers to take the lead in the campaign against such thieves.
Shahbaz said actions were being taken on war footing for bringing the energy crisis under control and the government would soon succeed in steering the country out of darkness and putting it on the road to progress.
