Pervaiz asks India to give Kashmiris right of self-determination

ISLAMABAD - Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid yesterday said that India should give Kashmiris their basic right of self-determination.

Addressing a seminar on Kashmir here, he said that the present govt is effectively highlighting the Kashmir issue at international forums and Pakistan is committed to provide moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people. Rashid said that Pakistan is a party to the Kashmir issue and also a lawyer to fight this case and it is our responsibility to fight the Kashmir case in the world.

He said that Nawaz Sharif has offered more sacrifices for the cause of Kashmiri than any other leader.

He said that he was made victim for bringing Kashmir dispute close to its resolution in 1999. He said dictatorship always ignored the Kashmir issue.

The Minister said the PM is a real representative of people's aspirations on Kashmir.

He said that commitment with Kashmiris will be strengthened in the days to come. He said that Nawaz Sharif in its speech at the United Nations drew the attention of the world body to its un-implemented resolutions on the issue.

He mentioned that the govt is working to strengthen Pakistan by improving economy, countering terrorism and overcoming energy shortage.

He said that a strong Pakistan can fight the Kashmir case more efficiently.

The Information Minister said that with the measures taken by the govt the national economy has improved and foreign exchange reserves have reached a record highest level of 23 billion dollars.

The seminar was attended by lawyers, representative of District Bar Association and civil society.
